1. Quick reminder-An Intimate Evening With Fotis: Part 2: The Super Intimate Pre-Fringe Performance is this Friday night at 1030 at the BNW. The whole show-plus a lot of stuff that won’t make the final version-for only $5. Come on. That’s a deal. Get yer tickets here.

2. Hey! What are you doing tonight? Here’s an awesome option! The Rockstar Storytellers First Live Recording Session! Sadly, I once again am unable to make it, but the show promises to be ridiculous. Here are some reasons to attend this event.

Reasons why you should attend:
Hey everyone,
We are seven days away from the Rockstar Storytellers’ first Live Recording Session! Reasons why YOU should be there:
*be on an audio recording that will be available on iTunes and on CD!
*be in the audience while a crew from New York films us for their Indie Spirit Website!
*your ticket stub will enter you into a LIVE drawing for comp tickets to shows by the Rockstar Storytellers in the Minnesota Fringe!
*Come at 6, and drink with the Rockstars from 6 - 7pm!
*See previews of three new Fringe shows from some of our Fringe friends!
*And if you and a friend call BLB at 612-825-8949 and give them the codeword ROCKSTAR, you’ll receive two tickets for the price of one!
We’re pumped. And we’ll see you there.
Your friendly neighborhood rockstars

That’s a lot of reasons. The show starts at 7. Doors at 6.

That’s all for today.

One Night Only Pre-Fringe Performance Of My Fringe Show!

Monday, July 14th, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Happy Monday!

1. This Friday at 1030pm at the BNW I am going to be doing a one night only performance of my upcoming Fringe show, An Intimate Evening With Fotis: Part 2.

Why should you come to this show?
1. It’s only five bucks! That’s right five bucks for an entire show. That’s a great deal. Look under your couch. There’s got to be five bucks under there. YAY!

2. It’s a great opportunity to see a show in its first stage. I’m going to be using the audience that shows up to gauge what jokes work and what jokes don’t work. Furthermore, it’ll help me refine the stories to see what’s missing.

I hope you can make it.

Get your tickets here. The site has last year’s show description on it, but I assure you, I will be doing the new show.

Yay!

Big News!

Friday, July 11th, 2008 | Solo Show Stuff | 3 Comments

Happy Friday!

1. Big news on the Fringe show front!  Next week, I will be doing a very cheap, very fun preview of my show. I’ll have full details up hopefully later today and by preview, I mean the whole fucking thing. That’s right, I will be performing the whole damn thing warts and all to see what hits and what falls miserably flat. I did this last year and it was a fantastic way to get the show into show shape.

So, next week I go into previews for both the BNW election show and my Fringe show. In fact, I will be doing both on one night. Man, I might be the stupidest kid on the planet.

2. I was at the VFW last night when I ran into a very drunk man. He said and I quote, “People who are named Xavier are very lucky because their names are almost Savior.” I think he was trying to convert me. It didn’t work, but both he and I were pleased with his effort.

Happy Thursday!
1. The BNW stage is almost done! Woo hoo! Here’s a shot from this weekend. It was so weird to see that sucker torn up. In the past few days, walls have been torn down, put up and painted. Floors have been ripped out, put back in and painted. Bars have been taken out, re-built and put back in. Wings have been created. Real wings. That’s the big trick. The theater can now fly. YAY!

The show continues to move along very well. The first act is essentially “teched” and we are in fairly decent shape as we head into our first preview.

The stress of July is starting to get to me just a little bit.

2. Hey, this weekend Ferrari McSpeedy is participating a 24 hour improv marathon in support of Gilda’s Club. Our slot is at 725pm on Sunday. Each group performs for half an hour and a 2 hour block of shows costs only $5. Talk about a good cause, huh?

3. Ok, maybe I was wrong about scrapping my Fringe show. I re-read what I have last night and it actually works really well. Welcome to my unique form of procrastination. Overanalyze everything to the point that nothing gets done.

Ugh. Well, postcards are soon to be ordered. That will be fun. I hope to have press releases done by this weekend. That’s probably too late, but whatever, It’ll at least be done.

Fuck It, Let’s Scrap This Motherfucker and Start Over Again. Fuck It.

Happy Wednesday! Life is crazy. Ugh. Here we go!

1. Despite the fact that Fringe inches ever closer with every given day, I’ve decided to scrap what I’ve written so far and go an entirely different route. It means going back and essentially starting from scratch, but it’s the much stronger decision artistically. I think. I don’t know. Why don’t you decide for me? Schedule my show, go see it and then afterwards tell me if I made the right choice. I’m not going to tell you what my other option was, which will make it more difficult for you to make an informed decision, but just assume the option I opted out of involved…I don’t know, all bad choices.

There is a fair to good chance, given my schedule, that the first time I perform this show will be on my opening night. That both excites and terrifies me.

2. Have spent the last five or six days re-building/designing the BNW stage. Let me re-phrase. While others have been re-building/designing, I have been merrily providing my labor in the form of a grunt. It’s been so much fun, the stage looks awesome and I have been reminded of my first job out of college in which I helped do the exact same thing for the Illinois Theater Center. Ahhhh memories…Today, I’m a chubby old man with bones covered in skepticism. Back then I was exactly the same, only chubbier. Damn you, Sanfratello’s Pizzieria!

3. Five days before my Fringe show opens, the BNW’s political show, The Lion, The Witch and The War Hero; or Is McCain Able?, premieres! Holy political satire! In fact, we begin tech rehearsals for the show this afternoon.

4. I’m thinking of having my Mom be a “guest blogger” on my site for a week in August. Since I’m sure you’re reading this, consider this your invitation, Mumsy.

Hectic? Yes.

Monday, July 7th, 2008 | Uncategorized | 10 Comments

Happy Monday! It’s nice to be back!

1. Life continues to be hectic. However, the Fringe show is almost, legitimately, for real, I’m not lying, done. Woot! Just one more story to go, then re-writes, re-writes and perform. This is all a lot of work for five shows, isn’t it? Yes. Yes it is. I think I’m actually coming up with something pretty good. Oh man! I can’t wait. Why not schedule my show?

-Fringe show tangent. I desperately want one of the “must avoid” fringe t-shirts. Brilliant.

2. My Mom posted another comment! Here it is in all it’s rambling beat poet beauty! For full effect, ignore the punctuation while reading. Also, read it aloud in one breath.

“Hi Is every comment I send open to view…I’m only concerned because I can hardly write a grocery list anymore! Sorry we haven’t been able to talk, sounds like you’ve been really busy. Me too…babysat for Nils, had a new floor put in and am reading my annual 4th of July novel. This year it is The Hornet’s Nest by Jimmy Carter, the southern states point of view on the revolution…parts of the book sound as if your uncles could have written it. Anyway try to give your dad a call he’s been wistful as his 60th birthday approaches !”

Actually, this one’s pretty coherent. I’m only posting it because it brings me such joy. Also, this is exactly how conversations on the phone go down. She’s like a conversation hummingbird, flitting anywhere the wind takes her.

3. My lawn has been mowed. I am no longer a hillbilly.

4. One of my favorite characters died in the last episode of Season 4 of The Wire. I took this really, really hard. He was not a good person, but he did have a code that he lived by. He was, as they say, a soldier.

5. It is possible to make a movie about an Amish girl and a robot.

Please Schedule My Fringe Show!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 | Plugs | 6 Comments

Happy Wednesday! Sorry for the lack of blog the last few days. It’s been a nutty start to the week. Anyhoo, I won’t be blogging much this week as I will be immersed in BNW show prep and working like a mad man to finish my fringe show. Holy smokes, I’ve got a little work to do.

In the meantime, please go to Fringefestival.org and schedule my show, An Intimate Evening With Fotis: Part 2. Fringe success is all about buzz, so if you’re planning on attending (or even if you’re not sure) please take a moment to schedule my show. I would really appreciate it. Clearly, my incredibly creative title isn’t going to pull this whole thing off. Thank you. Take care. I’ll see you in a few days.
