To Vest or Not To Vest…

Happy Tuesday!

1. Dear readers, I am in a bit of a fashion quandry. My Mother gave me a vest for xmas. Or it might have been for my birthday but I digress. The point is, it’s a nice vest. It’s dark brown and the front is a classy corduroy. I like it. But will I ever wear it? And almost as importantly, will I be mocked from now until the end of eternity if I do?  I know that were say, anyone on the planet minus a bootlegger during the prohibition era, to appear in front of me wearing a vest, I would laugh until my eyes popped out of my head and my stomach bled.   But still, I do consider myself to be something of a clothes kind of guy and maybe it is time to take a chance. The counter argument to what I just wrote of course is…”It’s a vest.”

Ladies and Gentlemen of good taste, what are your thoughts?  I’m probably just going to try it out for a while…

    I’m gonna demand pictures. :)

The very popular show Mad Men has popularized older fashions like vests and hats for men. I say go for it.

  3. Clarence says:

I guess it depends on what you wear it with. If you get made fun of because of what you’re wearing, just punch the petty fuckers in the throat.

  4. Catherine says:

I am always a big fan of taking fashion risks. And I don’t think a vest is very weird. Go for it!

    Here’s my thought:
I went rollerblading last night and saw a girl in a black pinstripe vest. She looked cute. I think the outfit would have been just as cute *ahem* I mean, handsome on a guy, but with a savvy hat. Buy a savvy hat and you should be set.

Thanks guys! You’re encouragement has given me the courage to wear an item of clothing! Thanks!

  7. Katharine says:

I am a fan of the vest and tie look, but it might be a little dressy for everyday.

  8. Kevin K says:

I don’t think it’s going to matter… People aren’t going to get past the Flowbee doo you’re sporting…

  9. Tim H says:

Wear the vest. Know that when I was younger, I was given a Wilson’s leather vest for Christmas. I never really wore it until I played Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I always wished it weren’t leather so I could feel comfortable wearing it. I envy your brown corduroy. Wear that vest. Also, wear that vest sans hat. If you had a matching hat, I would laugh and laugh and laugh…

  10. Kelly says:

The vest is a woman’s favorite fashion item b/c if worn properly, it will hide everything that needs hiding underneath it. Once you wear it and see these benefits, you will never take it off. You might have an entire closet of vests in your future. Good luck to you.

  11. Courts! says:

Oh my gosh, yes, wear the vest. Maybe for now just in dress-up circumstances. Then eventually, you can acclimate the vest to your everyday fashion. I can’t wait to see it!

  12. Maggie says:

I say pictures are in order!
Also – vests are coming back!
    Happy New Year

    Courage building…!

  14. Erica M says:

Yes, I was also thinking hat. But a picture would really help.

  15. Bree says:

    Vests are pretty snappy.

  16. Amy says:

Vests are totally coming back. I mean, they ARE back. They’re back and front, but not sleeves, which is what makes them VESTS. I actually bought one recently cuz I thought it was cute and would be an adaptable accessory, for what it’s worth. But I am also a middle-aged woman who wears pigtails, so maybe I’m not really a font of respectable advice.
