Onto Sketchfest, Then New Orleans
Happy Thursday!
1. Heading down to Chicago today for a weekend full of Sketchfest shenanigans. If you live in the area stop on by! To be honest, I’m a little bummed that I’ve done such a bad job of keeping in touch with old friends from Chicago. Sketchfest seems like a great reason to get together with old buddies. Lesson learned. If I ever leave Minneapolis, I will do a much better job of keeping in touch with folks. On the plus side, I am going to get to see the LCW, so life ain’t too bad.
2. From Chicago, I head to New Orleans for some BNW corporate shenanigans. I haven’t been to New Orleans in several years. I am interested to check it out again. Last time I was there, I didn’t really do much that I wanted to do. Hopefully, I’ll have a little down time to check out anything other than Bourbon Street.
3. My car won’t start. Won’t even turn over. Hope there’s not a snow emergency while I’m gone. Nothing says “move” like paying a towing fine for a retarded and impossible to understand city regulation.

Having only spent 60 or so hours in NOLA, I will bandy my limited information around like a big know-it-all..

I am jealous of your trip to N.O.
Eat well, my friend. Enjoy the warmth.
Retarded city regulation? Duluth has alternate-side parking on ALL streets (unless otherwise posted) ALL year, not just when it snows. Add to that the fact that your car MUST be moved once every 24 hours or face parking fines. That puts the Minneapolis Snow Emergency to shame on all levels.
As for New Orleans, you should find a Checkers or Rally’s while you’re there and let me know what you think.
What is confusing about the snow emergency rules? I mean really. The only thing that is even slightly hard is knowing when one is, but I am all connected to the internet so I really have no excuse. Boston has blinky blue lights for the internet-less – if they are flashing, there is a snow emergency.
Say hey to NOLA for us. I second the recommendation for Magazine St. in Uptown if you’re looking to get out of the Quarter. A couple of recommendations from me would be to hit Casamento’s http://www.casamentosrestaurant.com/main/main.html. Great oysters and just a fabulously New Orleans place, but call ahead, they have flaky hours (welcome to New Orleans!). If you don’t feel like Oysters, go over to Mahoney’s (http://mahonyspoboys.com/) for the best Po Boy I’ve had since before Katrina.
If you’re looking to get out at night and out of the Quarter, I highly recommend the Rock ‘n Bowl. http://www.rockandbowl.com/CalandarPAGE/mounths/january.html Check out who’s playing when you’re in town. Great place to hear some good music, dance if you feel like it and if you get their early, bowl a couple of frames.
Have a great trip.
