Writing Week.

Posted in BNW, Fringe, book project on September 28th, 2009 by Mike Fotis – 4 Comments

Happy Monday!

1. I am naming this week, “Mike sure has a lot of writing to do!”  Here’s a list. Lists are great for people who are too lazy to construct a paragraph.

-The silly little book. One day I will finish this thing. It most likely will not be in the next seven.

-A story for this Sunday’s Rockstar show at the BLB. The story needs to be in the mystery or horror genre.  I have nothing. In a perfect world, I could combine the book I’m writing with this gig. But since what I’m writing is in no way a horror or mystery, I yet again have proof that the world is not perfect and is in fact out to get me.

-Rehearsals for the Holiday show at the BNW begin this week. which means lots of brainstorming which means sketch ideas which means sketches.

I’m actually really looking forward to this week. It will be stressful, but well worth it. Because let’s face it. Writing is hard but it’s not as hard as selling vacuums door to door. Can you imagine that shit? Come on.

Rockstar Show This Weekend!!!! Also Great Deals At The BNW! Top Chef!

Happy Friday!

1. Many, if not all of you have seen me fail with a lower case “f”.  But this Sunday at the opening show of the new Rockstar Storyteller season, I am aiming to graduate to a fail with a giant fucking capital “F”! You see, I will be attempting fiction for the first time this Sunday! Actually, the story I’m working on is pretty funny, and hey, it’s always fun to try something new, right?  We’re all taking on different genres. Mine is westerns. Get ready for glorious descriptions of tumbleweed from yours truly.

I’ve decided to take my solo career a bit more seriously.  Want proof? I’m NOT watching the Bears season opener to do this show. That’s commitment.

Anyhoo, here’s the deets:

Sunday at 7 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.). Tickets are $12, or $10 if you have a Fringe button.

2.  In other news, if you haven’t caught the BNW’s latest show, The Brave New Workshop Saves The Planet; Or Yes We Can, But Do We Have To?, you really should. It’s quite the delightful ride to funny town.  In fact, I have 5 free comps to the shows this weekend.  To claim them, just let me know in the comments section of this post. First come, first serve.  The tickets are good for any show (Friday @ 8pm, Saturday @7pm & 10)  this weekend.

I am awesome.

3. You may have noticed I have not been live blogging this season of Top Chef.  The reason for this is that I now teach class on Wednesdays. I have one more class left and then hopefully I can hop back onto the live chat train. Unless you guys hate that.  So far, this season is shaping up to be a doozy! I am especially attracted to contestant Jennifer Carroll who is equal parts laid back, hot and mean. Also, she is a good chef.

Posted in BNW on August 11th, 2009 by Mike Fotis – 3 Comments

Hi all. As you know, this blog is deciated to all things Fotis.  Not only do I fail to memorize Fringe shows, but I also help run the Brave New Institute, which is the Brave New Workshop’s school of improvisation. So from time to time, I’m going to be listing classes that we have starting up at the BNI. This is one of those times. Please spread the word. And, if you’re interested in registering for any of these classes, you can do so…HERE!

1. Adult Everyday Improv 1!
Wednesdays 7:30pm-9:30pm beginning August 19

This class is perfect for people new to the world of improvisation.

2. Graduate Series!

Finding the Game in the Scene starts Aug. 19 at 7:30pm

This class is intended for people with improv experience. Is that you? Then you should sign up. I’m teaching this one! Woot!

Thanks!

Sketches and Reorganizing!

Posted in BNW, home projects on February 9th, 2009 by Mike Fotis – 3 Comments

Happy Monday!

1. Well, preview week has come and gone for another BNW show. How To Make Love Like A Minnesotan opens this Friday after one more preview on Thursday. What was learned after this weekend? For one thing, we learned that the show is very funny. We also learned that sketches about my penis suing me for damges aren’t funny. If you missed the show this weekend, you missed a sketch that was so confusing to audiences that it has now become legendary. Nice job, Fotis.

2. I am currently reorganizing my office/dining room. Yesterday was spent storing scripts in actual boxes. These aren’t just boxes, they are plastic prisons and actually look pretty bad ass.  DVD’s were moved and important papers were put in their own special plastic prison. Today, I’m heading to several office-y type stores to a.) buy a bookshelf with doors and b.) maybe buy a new desk. I like the desk I have, but it’s a monstrosity, and I could probably go smaller. Also, I could use a desk lamp.
